The year started off with returning home from a Vacation in Breckenridge Colorado. You will hear of us vacationing a ton there because it's one of our favorite places. Our vacation was a bit extended because we were snowed in and I70 was closed. Which of course my son and hubby were pretty excited about because it meant a couple more days on the slopes.
We returned home January 4th. The plan was to get back to business as soon as we got home. The Christmas trees were still up (yes multiple, because I love Christmas) because we left for vacation just a couple days after Christmas.
On Monday Paul and I went to the office as usual. My daughter (over 7 months pregnant) had a doctors appointment that morning. Little did we know our grandson was trying to make his debut early. Our daughter was admitted that morning to the hospital to stop contractions and keep him in a little longer. (She was not due until Feb 28th)

All contractions were stopped and she was sent home Tuesday Jan 7th. I was supposed to have a hair appointment that day but decided to cancel to go home to check on her and start taking down all Christmas decorations. Pulling into the driveway I was just thankful that everyone was home and healthy. I went downstairs, checked on them (my daughter and her husband) Poured a glass of wine. I headed up the stairs with every intention on making dinner. As I headed to set the oven to I noticed out the sliding glass door that the side of the house was on fire.
Calling 911 and yelling for the kids to come up and get outside. I swear we al ran around like chickens with our heads cut off for like 2 seconds, no matter the preparations you take its always a little puzzling when emergencies happen. The fire truck and police were here in no time at all. There we are outside watching the fire men doing everything to keep the whole house from burning. Luckily the fire was able to be stopped. The damage was enough that we could not stay in our home.
Within a few days (thankful for friends) we were in temporary housing and had everything we needed to keep everyone comfortable and together during the time our house was being put back together.
End of January my daughter welcomed a baby boy into the world. Yep, little man was impatient and wanted out about a month early. He is one of the most adorable baby boys I have ever seen. He was a fighter from the start......
Life was good! And then Covid happened. Here we are in a rental house. Work is going good, everyone is healthy and our house is starting to look normal again......but the world was out of toilet paper and everything was shutting down. We are told to stay home and only go to the store if needed. Businesses were closing their doors and going out to eat with friends and family was not an option because nothing was opened. We now had to wear gloves and masks to get gas and get groceries. Y'all This was all happening in America..... My son was in Manhattan KS, but my daughter, son in law and grand kids were home with us during this time.
I was getting used to the new routine. business was still going good and we had a new system at work. Half of us worked in the office and the other half worked from home. March came and went and Easter was right around the corner. I remember coming home on that Friday and the baby was extra fussy that day. He would not stop crying. After an evening of not be able to be comforted, mom and dad made the decision to take him to the ER.
That was the best decision ever!!!!
After some blood work and test mom and baby were taken by ambulance to another hospital for further testing. Baby had Bacterial Meningitis. That was one of the scariest weekends of our lives. He was very sick. Remember this is all happening during Covid so mom was the only one that could be in the hospital with our brand new Grand baby. We could only see her in the parking garage so she could update us and bring her food and snacks.
After a few days in the hospital he was taken out of NICU and place in a regular room and was on the road to recovery. Like I said he was born a fighter. 8 days later they were home.
We thought things were starting to turn around. We got word that our house would be ready early and we would be able to move back home in a couple weeks.
Its been a different year to say the least. Having to wear a mask everywhere has taken a little getting used to. We even had to wear masks to Silver Dollar City.
There has been many debates on the Masks, but many people are still getting sick so we will continue to wear ours and do what we need to do to keep our family and others safe
Even with wearing masks, using hand sanitizer and staying home, it was bound to hit our home too
Here we are December 2020 and Paul tested Positive for covid so we are both in quarantine. We had to postpone our Christmas festivities to keep the rest of the family healthy. So far I am negative and no symptoms.
Is anyone else ready for 2020 to be over?
Wishing you all health and wealth in 2021......Let's bring on the New Year
